The same could be said about unions and any number of liberal special interests, but nobody tries to silence them, primarily because Conservatives and Republicans, the only ones to benefit from silencing them actually believe in free speech. Whereas, Democrats and liberals only believe in the freedom of speech that supports their views.

Organizations, such as a church, that is tax exempt for tax purposes is not allowed to endorse political candidates or attempt to effect legislation. These people should do their free speech as ordinatry ceizens and not as members of an organized church or give up their tax exempt status if they wish to execise thier free speech through a church. The prosecutor is required to enforce the law - until the law is changed.

Listen smarty pants... most people will speed read thru articles… picking up key phrases. Most people only read the first paragraph that is why good journalism puts the most important and eye catching words or sentences first and the least important at the bottom of the article. No where does this article have the phrase "the city of El Paso" directly. It makes the reader have to find the phrases "the mayor and citizens" as a secondary effort. In doing good writing you should put the full context of the word you are using such as "City of El Paso" or if you are referring to a person, the person's whole name is used when they are first mentioned. After that you can use a shortened version such as Mayor Cook or El Paso or El paso Citizens. For those of use who live in the state of Colorado and are familiar with El Paso County, Colorado it would have been best to let readers know at the first mention of El Paso that it was referencing a city not a county. It is the same with acronyms. For example USAR can be used AFTER stating, “United States Army Reserve (USAR)” at the first mention of it at the beginning of your article.

You've completely misrepresented the circumstances and facts. The headline is false and eggregious, no citizen who "signed" the petition is going to be arrested! How ridiculous. Tom Brown is a nut and an opportunist using this for political gain and media attention. In fact, recently he was "consecrated" as a Bishop, though he's never had ANY theological training!Your using that clip from City Council is another attempt at obfuscation, the speaker had exceeded her group's time limit, that's all...and the Mayor is very generous with the time given to speakers for both sides of an issue. Mayor Cook is a Christian, too boot...something you don't seem to know. I, on the other hand, have know and worked with Mayor Cook for twelve or more years and find him an honorable man. I noted that within the first 30 seconds of her 70 seconds speech at the podium an armed guard appeared and kept his hand on his weapon at all times. And then she was told to take her free speech outside. Is this what has become of us? gives unmarried homosexual boyfriends & girlfriends insurance etc benefits.

The MAYOR is the CHIEF representative of the rule of LAW in a town or city.
HE MUST respect the will of the governed and their vote. if he PERSONALLY disagrees with it, HE DOES NOT HAVE THE AUTHORITY to just ignore it and then PERSECUTE who voted in such a way he doesnt like. HE HAS A LEGAL REMEDY he must follow.
